Feb. 24, 2010 (China Knowledge) - Chery Automobile Co Ltd, the largest indigenous car maker in China, has held talks with the provincial government of Inner Mongolia autonomous region to build a new plant in the region, the China Daily reported.

Chery might pour RMB 20 billion to set up the new plant in Erdos, which is expected to have an annual production capacity of about 500,000 cars.

The new plant in Erdos was listed in a city investment promotion document, according to the report.

Chery is expected to have a total capacity of 1.8 million units per year after completing construction on several other new facilities.

In 2009, the Chinese auto maker sold more than 500,000 cars, compared with 356,000 units sold in 2008, becoming the best-selling home-grown brand.

This year Chery aims to sell 700,000 units, or 44% more than last year. The auto maker plans to sell 140,000 Chery and Karry-brand cars and 150,000 Riich-brand cars.
