In the fourth quarter of 2009, foreign direct investment in Mongolia equalled to USUSD284.1 million, increasing by USUSD157.5 million, more than twice, against the previous year. Meanwhile, direct investment in Mongolia equalled to USUSD184.5 million, an increase of USUSD57.2 million, nearly one and a half, compared to the same period of the previous year.

 Mongolia’s external trade balance turnover also increased though its surplus has decreased compared to the same period of the last year as imports increase has exceeded that of exports by approximately 9.8%. In the first two months of 2010, Mongolia traded with 86 countries from all over the world and the total external trade turnover reached USUSD607.6 million, of which exports made up USUSD311.7 million and imports USUSD295.8 million. Against the previous year, total external trade turnover increased by USUSD169.4 million (38.7%), of which exports increased by USUSD79.3 million (34.1%), and imports by USUSD90.0 million (43.7%). The total external trade balance turned a surplus of USUSD15.9 million, a decrease of USUSD10.6 million (40.0%) compared with the same period of the previous year.
